Scholarships
Three scholarships—awarded in creative writing—are available to any potential BWRC participant. The 2010 scholarships provide tuition for one full day of workshops and do not cover transportation or lodging costs. Discounted tuition is available to winners should they wish to register for the second day of workshops. Scholarships should be considered meritorious awards, not financial aid. Winners are selected based on applicants’ skills, abilities, accomplishments, and promise as writers and contributors to the literary community. Senior citizens and students (age 12 and up) are especially encouraged to apply.
Scholarship Application Procedures
1. Download form
2. Submit up to 10 pages of prose along with a personal statement of interest which conveys why you wish to attend BWRC and how being awarded a scholarship would help you to overcome obstacles or otherwise achieve your goals. Include your registration form, and any supplemental materials you feel attest to your abilities, accomplishments, and goals to the address provided on the form. This may include letters of recommendation from professors, counselors, teachers, and mentors; clips of articles or reviews, and the like. Manuscripts and supporting materials will not be returned.
A committee of faculty and staff will select the scholarship recipients.
Deadline
The deadline for application is March 30, 2010. Recipients’ names will be posted on the conference site by no later than April 30. Winners will also be notified by email.
FAQs
Question: If a scholarship recipient want to attend the second day, how will they register and pay for the second day of the conference?
Answer: Scholarship recipients are provided a special registration link with which to register for the second day should they choose that does not expire until online registration ends in June.
Question: Should scholarship applicants register and pay for the full conference before knowing the results? If so, will the recipients of the scholarship be reimbursed? How and when will this take place?
Answer: The scholarship submission period ends on March 30, one month before early registration ends (April 30), so an applicant may either wait until April 15 when the scholarship recipients are announced or go ahead and register now.
If you register for the conference, apply for a scholarship, and you’re selected as a scholarship recipient, you will receive a refund of the full amount or a partial amount if you opt for the second day. If you pay online via credit card the refunded amount will be credited directly onto your card. If you pay by check or money order, you will receive a refund in the same manner.
